On July 21 2017 a group of Canadian Real Estate agents arrived in Iceland to participate in a 6-day trek across the Southern Highlands as part of a fundraising event in support of women’s shelters in Canada.
St-Georges has given $3,000 CAD to sponsor the event & commited to double that amount this year. St-Georges wholly own subsidiary, Iceland Resources has generously offered to make a donation to Kvennaathvarf Shelter in honour of the Royal LePage Realtors who are traveling to Iceland to take part in this special fundraising trek.
Robert "Rob" Gardhouse, long time St-Georges shareholder, consultant and ex-president was part of the Challenge.
The trekkers hiked more than 90 km of the Landmannalaugar route, through Álftvatn, Emstrur, Thorsmork to Skogar. Along the way, they experienced sheer cliffs, snowfields, waterfalls, steaming lava fields and hot springs. Camping each night in tents they set up for themselves, the group of Canadians experienced only 3-4 hours of darkness, a unique experience for them. The physical and emotional challenges they faced during this endurance hike will serve to remind them of the difficulties women face when living with domestic abuse.
